Quick Update

I know I've been a little MIA recently. It's been ridiculously busy around here. We've been cleaning out my grandma's house, which has been totally draining, physically and mentally. I'm also 16 weeks pregnant. YAY! We find out the sex in a mere 2 weeks. I've also not done ANY photography in the last 2 months, other than a very occasional snap of Lily or other family members. We did take a trip to NC a few weeks ago to celebrate the 4th with Nathan's parents, aunt, uncle and cousins. It was a great trip and hopefully I'll get some pics posted during the year 2011.

I think that's about it. Hopefully things will start to settle in the next few weeks and I can get back on track.

Much love,

Road Trip!

This past weekend (and now I'm officially... well almost... caught up on my blogging!) Nathan, Lily and myself took a little road trip to visit Nathan's Aunt Terri, Uncle Scott and cousins Hayley & Kayla AND Gram who was visiting from Massachusetts!  It was A LOT of fun! We had only planned on staying Friday night and coming home late Saturday, but at the last minute we decided to stay Saturday night because we were having such a nice visit and we weren't ready for it to end.

Here's a few pictures from our visit:

 Hayley, Terri & Kayla

Hayley & Kayla - had so much fun with these girls!

My favorite girl in the world. ♥

It was so nice to see everyone! We don't see them enough!

I'm still trying to catch up here...

Easter was a lot of fun this year. Lily definitely got into the whole egg hunting thing. All week at daycare she participated in egg hunts, so by the time Easter came along, Lily was a pro-egg-hunter.

We went over to a friends house Saturday night and Lily dominated the egg hunt. Her basket was overflowing with eggs (and candy). Her little eggs kept falling out and Lily thought she was finding more eggs... not the case. She was just finding the ones that were spilling out of her basket.

Sunday we headed over to mom and dad's after church and lunch and had a little egg hunt. No competition there since Gabriella isn't big enough to hunt eggs yet. Next year should be a blast!

Alice & Gabriella

Lily went for round two of egg hunting after her nap wearing only her diaper. Is my kid the only one who prefers to not wear clothes?

Much love,

Happy Birthday

Happy 2nd Birthday Lily!!

I know I'm a little late... but I wanted to share some pictures from Lily's actual birthday.

Since we had cupcakes and cake balls at the party and Lily had brownies at daycare, I decided to give Lily a little powdered sugar donut for her birthday "cake."

Birthday Party!

Ok, Ok!! I realize that I'm not so great at this blogging thing.. but I'm trying. That's all that matters, right?

So... we celebrated Lily's 2nd birthday three Saturdays ago. We had family and a few very close friends, who might as well be family, over for some burgers, hot dogs and cupcakes and cake balls. It was a beautiful (and very hot) day!

All the kiddies wanted to get in the pool, but it wasn't warm enough for that yet.

Lily loved all of her birthday presents!!

Thank you to mom and dad (Gigi and Papa) for hosting Lily's paty at their house. Mucho gracias.

It was a great day to spend with family and friends!

A few different things...

I hate that Saturday is almost over... I feel like I haven't accomplished anything. Oh well.

So - I've been teaching myself how to use my new camera. Even though I've always loved taking pictures, I've never owned a SLR camera (or DSLR), until recently. I've also been teaching myself how to edit my pictures in Photoshop - which is no easy task (for me anyways)! Anyways, stay tuned for new pictures. I'm hoping to start participating in some photo challenges. I just haven't been able to find the time yet.

On a different note, I just finished reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo a couple of days ago. If you like a good read and you haven't read it yet - you need to! It was a little slow in the beginning, but once I got a few chapters in, I couldn't put it down. I am so looking forward to reading the next book in the trilogy.... Hopefully I can fit it in after I read our next book club book: Saving CeeCee Honeycutt.

Find me on Goodreads!

Oh!!! I also wanted to mention something else that I am totally obsessed with (besides Epiphanie bags) -- Becky Higgins' Project Life!! It's an easier way to scrapbook (photo journaling). I do not have the time or money to scrapbook, so this is a fabulous way for me to store my photographs! I'm looking forward to purchasing my first kit!! Check out the video on her website - she explains how to use her Project Life kit. :)

I cannot believe my baby girl is going to be TWO in just a matter of weeks!! It doesn't feel like it's been two years since I gave birth to Lily. It just goes by so fast.

Here are some recent pictures....

My sister, Alice and her baby, Gabriella

Lily loves her cousin!

I hope everyone had a great weekend!!

Currently Obsessed...

I am currently obsessed with Epiphanie camera bags! They are sooo

gorgeous and I'm really considering purchasing one, even though I have

never paid that much money for any accessorie or even clothing.... but

it's for the camera! :) Which, by the way, I am LOVING my new camera

(Canon 7D). Anyone want their picture taken??

That's all.... for now.

p.s. my favorite is CLOVER (in pink) ♥

I'm a Giraffe!

What animal are you? Go to to take the quiz.

The quiz is based off of the book Surviving Your Serengeti. I have not read the book, but am putting on my to-read list.

Everyone in my office has taken the quiz and all of the results have been very accurate.

The graceful giraffe
The giraffe symbolizes the broad meaning of the word “grace”. While some see grace in human terms as one’s elegance or charm, for others it’s divine in origin and represents that indispensable gift for the development, improvement and expansion of one’s character and the ability to rise above the negative events of time.
The word “grace” tends to vary in meaning from one person or situation to another, often depending upon the context in which it is used. While many see the grace of the giraffe in human-like terms such as elegance, charm, or a positive attitude, others consider it to be divine in origin. They believe that it represents that indispensable gift for the development, improvement, and expansion of one’s character.

No matter how you see it, grace is a disposition that requires compassion toward others and the desire to extend goodwill. It incorporates the exercise of love and kindness—most importantly, to those who may not deserve it. Grace is as crucial in business as it is in life.
This truth is embedded in the fiber of who we are, what we believe, our appreciation, and the contribution we make to society. Gracious people exhibit the following characteristics:

  • They seek to make others feel like they’re the most important person with whom they can spend time, and always put the needs of others first.
  • They live according to personal standards that are higher than any given code of conduct, and incorporate dignity, honor, and respect in extending grace to others—even when things have not gone their way.

Whether it’s in our job or in personal matters, grace can open up a richer and more fulfilling life. It’s not an inherent quality that some people have and others do not; rather, grace is learned and acquired by observation and practice. It is first and foremost a skill that is centered on others—how we treat them and how we put their needs above our own without any consideration or expectation of a return in kind.

Our ability to develop grace isn’t based on what we have or don’t have. What matters in terms of grace is whether or not we appreciate what we do have, and how we interact with those around us.
Maximizing This Skill
The tone and approach you use with others impacts how you establish grace in your life. This quality comes through in your language, attitude and body movements – all of which express your true intent to others.
These qualities are acquired through a personal commitment to focus on changing your attitude toward others.  They are evident in the workplace with changes from:
  • Control to coaching
  • Managing to mentoring
  • Employing to empowering
  • Style to spirit
Graceful individuals develop interdependent relationships that are fostered through patience, self-discipline, dignity, honor and respect. They accomplish this by recognizing others’ strengths and weaknesses, and attempting to build them up. They realize how vital it is to nurture others without expecting recognition for it.
Grace represents style, finesse, kindness, and above all, doing the right thing – a quality that will always advance our purpose in life, no matter what it is.

night night

Lately, I have started rocking Lily before putting her to bed. It's a nice quiet time that we get to share together and I usually sing to her and say our bedtime prayers. One of my favorite songs to sing to her is "In the Garden," which is an old hymn that my mom used to sing to us when we were young. It is one of my fondest memories. I'm not sure why that has always stuck with me... but it has. Lily has also requested that I sing other songs, like ABC's and Rock-A-Bye-Baby (this was a popular one last night).

There is nothing sweeter than a sleeping baby...
